SAT is a standardised test commonly used for college admission in the United States. It is owned and published by The College Board. It debuted in 1926 with its name and scoring modified several times; originally called as the Scholastic Aptitude Test or SAT Reasoning Test, and now simply, the SAT.

 

GRE, widely known as Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardised test that is one of the admission requirements for many graduate schools in the United Stated. It is own and published by Educational Testing Service (ETS). It was first established in 1936 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. It is mainly taken by undergraduate who are about to graduate and will like to enrol into a master’s program.

 

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer adaptive test that test certain skills in written English for admission into a graduate management program, such as an MBA. It is owned and administrated by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). It can be taken up to five times annually and attempts must be at least 16 days apart.

SAT

 

Overseas College Admission TestThe SAT, originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test or Scholastic Assessment Test, s owned and developed by the College Board, a private non-profit organisation in the United States. It is administrated by the Educational Testing Service. It is widely used for US college admissions. SAT measures literacy, numeracy and writing skills that are required to succeed academically in college. It has been known that the test assesses the ability of the test takers in analysing and solving problems.

 

However, the test is administrated under a short duration to help provide a wide range of scores. The test comes in 3 sections: Evidence Based Reading & Writing, Math and an Optional Essay.

 

Reading Test

This section is made up of 52 questions and have to be completed within the duration of 65 minutes. While it is based on reading passages, all questions are given in multiple choice. Frequently, tables or graphs will be included with some passages. This test is made up of 5 passages and each passage is accompanied with 10 to 11 questions. SAT Reading passages are based on 3 main fields: science, history and social studies.

 

Writing & Language Test

This section is made up of 44 multiple choice questions and have to completed within the duration on 35 minutes. Taken with the Reading Test, candidates will have to find mistakes or weakness in writing and to suggest corrections and improvements. The skills required include improving analysis of topics in socials studies and science; changing word or sentence structure to improve on the organisational quality and impact of writing.

 

Mathematics

This section is taken in 2 portions: Math Test – Calculator and Math Test – No Calculator. The test is taken in a duration of 80 mins and includes 58 questions: 45 MCQ and 13 grid-in questions. The topics that are frequently tested are:

  • Heart of Algebra (linear equations, system of linear equations and linear functions)
  • Problem Solving & Data Analysis (statistics, modelling and problem-solving)
  • Passport to Advanced Math (non-linear expressions, radicals, exponentials)

 

SAT is offered 4 to 5 times in Singapore, in the month of March, May, October and December. The test dates are typically scheduled on the 1st or 2nd Saturday of the month. GMAT exam consists of 4 different sections:
